I am the head of the Innovative Immunotherapies Unit at the IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute (OSR, Milan, IT). My research interests are focused on CAR T-cell therapy of cancer. At OSR, I participated to the development of one of the first animal models recapitulating cytokine release syndrome/neurotoxicity and I developed a new CAR-based strategy targeting CD44v6, which is currently under investigation in a Phase I/IIa clinical trial. I’m currently involved in the preclinical program on CAR-T cell therapy of cancer at OSR and I participate to different Consortia aimed at promoting the bench-to-bedside translation of CAR T-cell therapies in Italy and in Europe. Main activities of my Research Unit include the improvement of CAR-T cell fitness, the development of approaches to boost the potency of CAR-T cell therapy against solid tumors, the validation of new CAR specificities and the study of CAR-T cell toxicities in innovative xenograft mouse models.
